Alfonsina Milito

Inside the LAB

Alfonsina Milito studies microalgae, microscopic algae that are invisible to the naked eye. When there are many microalgae together, we can see a greenish color given by the chlorophyll they contain, a pigment that allows them to photosynthesize.

Alfonsina researches the genetics of these unicellular organisms to modify them and make them more efficient in the production of useful compounds such as drugs.

Outside the LAB

In her free time, Alfonsina loves to travel to remote places like Thailand to explore different landscapes and learn different cultures and ways of living and eating. She is passionate about Asian cuisine, and likes to add new recipes to her repertoire after having tried them back home!
