Alfonsina Milito

Inside the LAB

Alfonsina Milito studies microalgae, a group of microscopic algae invisible to the naked eye. When there are many microalgae together, we can see a greenish colour given by the chlorophyll they contain, a pigment that allows them to do the photosynthesis.

Alfonsina investigates the genetics of these unicellular organisms to modify them and make them more efficient in the production of useful compounds such as drugs.

Outside the LAB

In her free time, Alfonsina loves traveling to remote places like Thailand to explore different landscapes and learn about different cultures and ways of living and eating. She is passionate about Asian cuisine, and she likes to add new recipes to her repertoire after having tried them in their place of origin!
